David Selbach - A Passion For Saving Lives

David Selbach went through the required schooling, and at the age of 24 became an EMT. In 1996 he was hired by Sunstar Paramedics and rendered over 30 years of service.

Over those years David gained many certifications and increased his knowledge in many life saving skill sets. He obtained the American Heart Association's CPR course certification, which included many courses taught by that organization. He then started LifeTech Instructional Services in 2005.  LifeTech teaches over 20 courses in Life Saving education.

David was invited to work with a disaster medical group for FEMA, and by the time he was 35 he was performing Logistics Operations and Medical Assistence for Disaster Medical Assistance Teams [NDMS], deployed to natural, or man made, disasters of all kinds in the United States. 

Once deployed to a hurricane disaster in Puerto Rico, David Selbach saw widespread devastation and sick and injured people. Besides doing what he needed as Logistics Chief in that situation, he made special note that ordinary people have no knowledge of basic lifesaving skills, especially in CPR and life threatening choking emergencies.

As he was heading for home, he came up with the concept of teaching ordinary people about CPR and dealing with a life threatening choking event, without having actual 'formal' training. He came came up with the idea of creating Hands On The Heart, Inc!

From that point on, his major passion was making sure that whatever he got involved with, it would help to enable ordinary people to do extraordinary things in life threatening situations.

Especially, saving lives that might have been lost in that critical time between the onset of of a cardiac event and the moment professional help arrives. First responders call it "The Golden Hour" — critically important to minimize the effect of a heart attack, permanent heart damage, and cardiac arrest.

For the Healthcare Professional:

• Our *Healthcare Provider* class, also known as BLS (Basic Life Support) carries a 2 year certification program from the American Heart Association in which a person receives a digital certification card after the class.
• The *CPR and First Aid* class carries a 2 year certification from The American Heart Association, or our own LifeTech certification.

All LifeTech Instructional educators are licensed professionals with extensive backgrounds in their field of stud Our instructors come from a variety of backgrounds including: Nationally Registered EMT's (NREMT), Paramedics, RN's, Respiratory Therapists, and Doctors.

Many of our instructors are also members of both State & Federal Medical and Logistical Disaster Response Teams.
